We teach our process for writing and performing comedy.

Whether you are looking to pursue a career in the arts or just want to try something new, we offer something fun and informative for everyone. Our limited selection of classes are built on the teachings of Chicago style improvisation using the methods learned from our time studying and performing at world famous comedy programs of The Second City , iO Chicago, and The Annoyance Chicago.

We don’t teach you how to be funny, but we do teach the process for becoming better disciplined at the craft of comedy. The goal of our classes are to show that while the work is fun, it is work. And the harder you work on your craft, the better you become. We use improvisation to develop original, written material and believe that the two go hand in hand to create successful performers.

Sketch Writing 101

This is an introductory class to sketch writing. The class will focus on generating ideas, turning those ideas into a comedic premise, crafting dialogue, editing, and ultimately leaving the class with at least one finished sketch (hopefully more).  We will use a combination of solo and group exercises to craft ideas into scenic structure and give you deadlines to complete the work. We will also be using improvisation as a basic tool to shape this work, so some improv experience helps.

Character Development

Developing original characters is a major strength to any comedic performance. This course will explore exercises and techniques to help you develop original characters for whatever platform you choose. For character work we use a combination of improv techniques as well as theater games, movement exercises, and vocal work to help you explore and expand your performance capabilities. Your original characters can be used in improv, theater/live performance, social media videos, or just help you open up a sense of play.
